How to Easily Keep Something Alive

When I start a new project, I feel a rush of motivation and excitement. This however, slowly dies after one month. I get tempted by another project, convince myself that its more important, and end up not finishing what I start.

I hated this about myself. I think quitting is ok, even good, but only when its intentional.

Forcing myself to stick to to-do lists, manifestation boards, or other hacks, never worked for me. I needed to find a real solution that didn’t rely on effort.

I realised that my eagerness to disappoint my past-self is only matched by my fear of disappointing others.

Could I use this to my advantage?

Well, about three months ago, I made a system. As soon as I started a project, I would find someone also interested in what I was doing. I made a video on how I do this.

I would then ask them to have a weekly calls to discuss ideas, their thoughts, and just have a chat about the area. Calendly works well. Then, I would set up the weekly google meet for 10 minutes, nothing to long. There is literally no way to back-out, of this chat, unless I give them a strong reason about why I’m giving up.

It’s been three months now, and I’ve yet to quit anything that I’ve started since then, which is two months of improvement to my old system.

We’re getting there.
