Better Temperature Control Of Algae?
I'm trying to use David Jordan's home bioreactor to measure the growth of algae. In my previous post, I wrote about obtaining algae myself and trying to make a sterilisation procedure.
But there's a problem with growing stuff at home. The UK is going through multiple heatwaves, so I can’t get the temperature constant for my experiments.
And whilst I have AC in my bedroom, I don't have it in my workbench in my living room. And to do any reasonable experiments with living things, you need to control the temperature.
For algae, I want to keep it at 24C since they are sensitive creatures.
And even though the bioreactor has Peltier elements for heating with feedback, the cooling doesn't work well enough when the ambient temperature in my house is 30C.
So one solution that David suggested is to get a mini fridge, stuff the bioreactor inside, and then wire in the cables through drilling holes through the front side.
So I got this fridge (Subcold Pro 15L Mini Fridge) (not an endorsement)
And here's what it looks like for scale. Gonna go to Screwfix this weekend to get some drills. Stay tuned!
